I used the shadow cast in the photo of my laser cut luminaire as the background image. I stretched it in photoshop, and multiplied a layer of maroon over the top. Right now it seems a little bold so I might need to tone down the color a little bit. I also downloaded a font for the title that seemed appropriate. It still seems a little quiet. I would love any feedback anyone can give me!

Megan,
Great to see all your efforts with the layouts. I like the visual richness of the latest background with the soft red stripes. I wonder whether you might want the overall value of the poster to be a bit lighter: it's got a sort of dark macabre tone to it, especially when you compare it to the white version McKPoster1.jpg.
The stripes give the poster revision a natural bay rhythm that encourages you to place lots of small pieces into the columns and keep it organized. I would edit down your pieces to the absolutely best ones that convey the essential ideas:
1) geometry, 2) lighting effects, 3) design evolution
1) On your earlier trial McKPoster3.jpg, I like very much where you lined up the axon, plan and elevation vertically so that we get the correspondence between parts. The bright yellow lines show up nicely against the dark background. That version has the most order; the left & right parts start to split off because each is individually center justified.
2) your photos and rendering show the renderings very nicely. Be ruthless about editing so you don't have repetition (i.e. the FormZ renderings). Can you lighten FinlanternPhoto.JPG? I like IMG_1392.JPG because it's lightness shows the external geometry of the lamp, but FinlanternPhoto.JPG has better cast light.
3) I don' t have a record of your first draft for the lamp, and I'd enjoy seeing that along with another refinement. If you plan to hang a string of them, it would be great to see what the lamp would look like from underneath. You could make one, and position it several different places in the same room and render that.
For the fonts, I like the ones on McKPoster1.jpg and Poster2.jpg best because they have an exotic quality and are still legible. I like the concept of integrating the axon with the fonts, in the revision they are still quite visually separate. You could make
the title all fit in the circle, but it might be just as nice to put a halo on the M.

I can see your layouts getting better. You just have to develop the room and find some great views.
