These look like interesting studies. I like the simple slits as light filters and your experimentation with textures. You need to turn up the intensity of the lighting so we can see the results better (Double click on the Light name).
If you want to increase the overall brightness of all surfaces, click on "Light Name" in the Lights palette, then increase Ambient Intensity towards the bottom of the palettte. Don't push it about 25% or it will equalize all the surfaces and make the picture look flat.
The other trick is to just insert a soft extra light to give the room a glowing luminousity. This is handy if you want to get some interplay of different colors.
